Botanist and Explorer
Josiah Gregg led a party of settlers north from San Francisco in 1850. The area the Gregg Party scouted later became the cities of Arcata, Eureka and Springfield. He was killed when his horse threw him during an expedition. His body fell into a deep ravine and was never recovered.
In reality, Gregg was killed by Charles Southard after they had discovered a mysterious skull made of gold. Gregg returned in a form of undeath and tried to get his revenge on Southard. He was stopped by a group of young thrill-seekers in the early part of 1873, although almost no one knows this.
