Owner of Local Saw Mill
Robert Gunther was a member of the Gregg and Southard parties. In 1860 he participated in a massacre of the Wiyot people to steal their lands. Gunther operates a logging company as well as the local sawmill. The size of the Eel River requires his company to trim the logs into eight foot sections. This limits the clientele he can sell his lumber to. His company would have gone under if it weren’t for the demand of wood pulp from the Buck-Shen Paper Mill.
